Hundreds to lose jobs in kyangwali, as MIRP is on the verge of losing funding due to defalcation.


Mutual Inter-related Resilience Program (MIRP) is a consortium whose work is being lead by Act Church of Sweden in Western Uganda, Kikuube district. The initiative is funded via Sida through the Swedish Embassy in Kampala and is carried out together with Action Against Hunger (ACF), the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) and the Lutheran World Federation (LWF / WS).

Through this initiative, Act Church of Sweden works with partners for peaceful coexistence, but also to understand the underlying mechanisms behind the violence. Act Church of Sweden specializes in looking after the individual's specific needs in society and within the refugee settlements in order to create conditions for social co-existence between refugees and the local population.


On, 26-feb-2020, the then chairman local governmet kikuube, Hon.kazin francis launched the consortium in the district, the district where kyangwali refugees settlement seats. The Project has been running in the two sister districts of Hoima and Kikuube with the focus on: food security, education, health, environment and livelihood for both refugees and host communities.


The initiative also focuses on sustainability, the environment and climate-adapted measures. Preventive measures and raising issues around sexual violence, gender-related violence and gender issues - are some of the cornerstones of their work.

Today, the consortium is reportedly at verge of losing its funding due to increased misappropriation of the donation, sub standard works in the constructions and field.

Many of the workers in these three organizations have been forced to terminate their contracts until the act church of Sweden rethinks on whether to continue funding the consortium, or remove the corrupt organizations or have one organization funded for the entire project or totally calls off the program.

The cries, where observed from the volunteers, teachers and other field workers as they expressed the fear and negative impact of losing jobs during this hard times of lockdown and increased spread of covid19.

Many noted that their families are to starve due to lack of money to support them and further recommended that, act church of Sweden, the embassy of Sweden in Uganda, together with the government of Uganda and these Ngo’s should rethink, intervene, and focus on uprooting the corrupt officials and live the organization works and projects to thrive.

It should be known that; Action against hunger- has been handling food security, and livelihood programs tackling the root causes of hunger by addressing problems of production, access, and income.

LWF- has been coordinating protection response including; Gender-based Violence (GBV) and Child Protection with Legal Service and Psychosocial Support. Addressing both effective prevention as well as risk reduction strategies specific to GBV increasing direct service provision, a safer environment for girls, boys, women and men. On environment LWF has as well been promoting initiatives in line with UNHCR’s global strategy to Safe Access to Fuel and Energy (SAFE) by implementing a holistic proactive approach aiming at promoting environmental peace and security among the refugees and other persons of concern.



Norwegian refugees council (NRC).- Work was and has been to improve attendance rates in school, especially among girls.To offer an accelerated education programme for refugee children, so that they catch up and join the official school system.
